Steven Klein, Hiding Behind the Camera—NY Times

Steven Klein, Hiding Behind the Camera article from the New York Times

Photographer and RISD alumnus Steven Klein was featured in the New York Times' Thursday Styles section.

Mr. Klein has in fact been expressing that vision for decades. He first took up a camera at the Rhode Island School of Design, where as an art student in the mid 1970s, he began exploring his disturbingly violent, erotically charged and, some would say, unholy themes. His reputation rests in part on preternaturally polished images that owe a debt to Helmut Newton, whose models were often trussed in prostheses, as animated as blowup dolls. Mr. Klein’s celebrity portraits are sexier in a waxy sort of way.

SEO for Photographers—and Illustrators, and Designers, and...

While the presentation below is titled SEO for Photographers it is a good overview of understanding how search engines see web content and how you can take steps to make your site and its content more visible to search.

Search engine optimization (sometimes included with search engine marketing) may not seem like an important topic for art school grads but for anyone looking to be found on the web, understanding how search engines work is key.

As creators of visual content photographers, designers, illustrators, architects, and fine artists of all types are at a disadvantage in search becasue search engines are built to find text. It's tempting to let visual projects speak for themselves but the reality is that spending some time writing about your work, marking it up and getting other sites to link to it can significantly increase traffic to your site.

Spend a few minuts with this presentation and you'll have a roadmap for improving the visibility of your work.
