Established in October 2003 by the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter and its charitable affiliate, the Center for Architecture Foundation, the Center for Architecture is New York City’s premier public space for exhibitions, discussion, and professional exchange on architecture and design.  With multiple galleries, a lecture hall, public resource center, library and conference rooms, the Center serves as the place where the public and design professionals meet.  Since its opening, the Center has presented hundreds of exhibitions and thousands of meetings and events, greeting 100,000 visitors a year.  The Center is supported by an energetic, driven and enthusiastic board and staff, and the atmosphere is fast paced and full of stimulating content every day.


Job Purpose:

The Director of Development creates and oversees the implementation of a strategic approach to fundraising which may include major gifts, special events, corporate donations, grant solicitation, planned giving, and in-kind resources for the AIA New York Chapter and the Center for Architecture Foundation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors for the AIA New York Chapter and the Center for Architecture Foundation, and senior staff to create a development plan that increases revenue to support the strategic direction of the organization
- Implement the development plan in accordance with ethical fundraising principles
- Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that goals are being met
- Monitor trends in the community and adapt strategies as necessary

Organization and Implementation
- Oversee planning and execution of the Heritage Ball (1,200 attendees), the Honors & Awards Luncheon (600 attendees), and other special fundraising events
- Identify and develop corporate, community and individual prospects for fundraising priorities, including assisting with corporate membership in collaboration with Director of Member Services
- Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical processes are carried out in a timely manner
- Prepare grant applications in collaboration with the Center for Architecture Foundation and the Director of Exhibitions
- Co-manage, with the Director of Membership, the administration of a donor mailing list/database that respects privacy and confidentiality of donor information
- Coordinate in-kind donations and appropriate donor benefits
- Develop policies and procedures for development activities which reflect ethical practices
- Develop the donor sponsorship schedule of benefits for participating in the Center for Architecture’s, the AIA New York Chapter’s, and the Center for Architecture Foundation’s programming and steward donors accordingly

Staff Management
- Engage volunteers for special development projects using established volunteer management practices
- Supervise Development Coordinator

Budget Management
- Develop and gain approval for an annual budget for non-dues related programming
- Monitor expenses and analyze budget reports on development activities and recommend changes as necessary

Marketing and Communication
- Foster an understanding of philanthropy within the organization
- Develop a comprehensive communication plan to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of its fundraising activities
- Coordinate the design, printing, and distribution of marketing and communication materials for the development efforts
- Build relationships with community stake holders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization


Qualifications:

Education
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- MBA/MPA highly desirable

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated advanced knowledge of the following:
- Fundraising management of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) activities
- Federal and regional legislation affecting nonprofit organizations
- Special events planning and management
- Management of volunteer resources

Experience
- Minimum five years development experience (cultural institutions preferred)
- Demonstrated fundraising success
- Demonstrated experience creating and implementing fundraising strategies
- Knowledge of fundraising software (FileMaker Pro preferred)
- Strong written and presentation skills

JOB DESCRIPTION
Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium (Atrium), in conjunction with its Visitor Services (VS) team, seeks multiple Installation Representatives to work with VS and Atrium management and seasonal Installation Supervisors to greet and attend to guests attending The Clock.

Christian Marclay’s epic video installation, The Clock, returns to New York City with a free showing at the Atrium from mid-July to early August. Marclay has organized thousands of clips taken from the entire history of cinema, from silent films to the present, in each referencing an exact time via a clock, a watch, or dialogue. The resulting collage tells the accurate time at any given moment, making it both a work of art and literally a working time piece.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as frontline staff and ambassadors to the exhibition.
• Assist the Installation Supervisors with compiling daily feedback and provide recommendations for the exhibit based on each day’s experience.
• Provide support to the Installation Supervisors in the dissemination of critical information to each shift’s volunteers.
• Provide a reliable, informed presence about The Clock and other Lincoln Center summer programs.
• Uphold the highest standards of customer service by assisting/orienting guests, troubleshooting guest concerns, gracefully enforcing policies, and general line management/crowd control.
• Clerical assignments, as necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Customer service, hospitality and/or front of house experience.
• Outgoing, enthusiastic, energetic, flexible, and patient disposition.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be able to work mostly outdoors, including long periods of time standing.
• Forty-hour work week preferred, but part-time possible with weekends, evenings, and some obligatory “overnight” shifts.
• Fluency in a foreign language is a plus.
• Interest in performing arts and audience development preferred.

• Assist in staff and volunteer training, management, motivation, and scheduling as well as working as greeters on the front lines
• Independently problem solve to respond to unpredictable needs of the exhibition
• Oversee crowd management and conflict resolution; assist/orient guests and troubleshoot guest concerns
• Uphold the highest standards of customer service
• Manage seasonal part-time and volunteer support staff
• Issue regular pre- and post-shift reports and ensure effective communication among Atrium, VS, Security and other Lincoln Center staff
• Administrative duties or special projects, as necessary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 2 years of customer service, front of house and/or hospitality experience; supervisory experience preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility, and patience.
• Must be able to work mostly outdoors, including long periods of time standing.
• Must be available to work 40-hour work week, including weekends, evenings, and some obligatory “overnight” shifts.
• Knowledge of contemporary art; prior art gallery/museum experience preferred.
• Interest in the arts and audience development.

Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium, in conjunction with its Visitor Services team, seeks enthusiastic and energetic summer volunteers interested in greeting and assisting guests attending one of the season’s hottest free cultural events – The Clock.

The epic video installation, The Clock, returns to New York City with a free showing at the Atrium from mid-July to early August. The Clock is a 24-hour work of video art by renowned artist Christian Marclay. Marclay has organized thousands of clips taken from the entire history of cinema, from silent films to the present, in each referencing an exact time via a clock, a watch, or dialogue. The resulting collage tells the accurate time at any given moment, making it both a work of art and literally a working time piece.

Volunteers are expected to uphold the highest standards of customer service while engaging in line management, gracefully enforcing exhibition policies, assisting with guest inquiries, and being an informed presence about other Lincoln Center summer programs. Volunteers will be required to fill out daily log sheets and contribute to perfecting the visitor experience throughout the course of the installation.

Preference will be given to volunteer applicants with previous customer service or hospitality experience. Assignments are mostly outdoors, including long periods of time standing. Recommended minimum of 8 hours/week with weekends, evenings, and some “overnight” shifts likely included. Fluency in a foreign language a plus and interest in performing arts and audience development preferred.
