Call for Volunteers in April - Ballroom Marfa

Production collaborative FIFTY by US (www.fiftybyus.blogspot.com ) seeks creative volunteers to help with the production and installation of a Texas environment at Center 548 in Chelsea. The artistic and eco-driven environment will house Ballroom Marfa’s first NYC-based Benefit Auction. Ballroom Marfa (www.ballroommarfa.org) is a nonprofit cultural arts space that presents visual arts, film and music, and is based in Marfa, Texas. The Benefit Auction and After-Party will be held on Tuesday, April 12th and is sponsored by W Magazine and Akris, among other supporters.

We are looking for 10 volunteers all day Monday, April 11th and Tuesday, April 12th; as well as 1-2 particularly interested volunteers the weeks before the event to work closely with FIFTY by US partners Jonathan Mergele and Sean Daly with the production of a hanging neon-colored sculpture, silk-screening newspaper table runners, among other innovative projects.

All volunteers are invited as guests to the Ballroom Marfa Benefit After-Party on April 12th, 10:00pm-1:00am, featuring a live performance by Andrew Wyatt and Pontus Winnberg of Miike Snow, as well as music by DJ JD Samson.

Rooftop Films Summer Internships

Rooftop Films is seeking interns for Summer 2011. A great opportunity for film, arts administration and nonprofit management students as well as young filmmakers: learn how a nonprofit film festival works and see hundreds of great movies. Internships are not paid, but can be done for school credit. Find out your school’s internship or field work credit requirements and we will work with you to accommodate them.

Our offices are on the border of Park Slope and Gowanus, near the R, F, M and G trains in Brooklyn, so please apply only if you will be able to handle that commute. We welcome graduate students and applicants finishing their 1st year of college (or age equivalent) or older.

FESTIVAL INTERNSHIP (5 positions available):
Help with all aspects of planning and managing a film festival.
Internship tasks can include:
+ Organizing film screenings (including on-site show setup and breakdown)
+ Volunteer coordination
+ Audio and video tech work
+ Marketing, promotions and community outreach
+ Contacting, corresponding and hosting filmmakers
+ Organizing and maintaining film databases
+ Fundraising and development
+ General office and festival work
+ Anything else you might be interested in—we want you to see how we work

Candidates should have good experience working with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and experience with Filemaker, HTML, design programs or video editing software is a plus.

Festival Internship candidates would be expected to average at least two days a week and one show per weekend, but generally the more time you can commit the better.

EDITING INTERNSHIP (1 position available):
Rooftop seeks a detail oriented and organized Editing Intern to help cut together a series of short film programs and promos for our summer film series.

The candidate should have:
+ Final Cut Pro editing experience
+ Photoshop and titling skills
+ Be comfortable with capturing footage (from DVD, mini dv) and assembling sequences
+ knowledge of DVD duplication (iDVD) is a plus

In addition to the above, internship tasks may include:
+ Assist with filmmaker relations, correspondence and tape traffic (coordination of tape delivery)
+ Organizing our tape library
+ General office and festival work

Candidates would be expected to average at least three days a week in the office (preferably M, T, W), but generally the more time you can commit the better.
